The Committee was formed on 11th June 2002 with the aim of promoting in the United Kingdom the study of the lands of Central and Inner Asia across the full range of the arts, humanities and social sciences, a range which is reflected in the membership of the Committee. To this end the Committee will support research on the region, publicize lectures, meetings and other events, promote collaboration between UK individuals and institutions (via the Central and Inner Asia Register), and seek to encourage bilateral academic relations between the United Kingdom and Central and Inner Asia. Thanks to awards from the British Academy , the Committee has now distributed approximately £110,000 in the last three rounds of applications for grants in aid of research. A small number of travel grants were also awarded in January 2004 and January 2005. Enquiries about the Committee should be directed to - "The Secretary, Committee for Central and Inner Asia, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Sidgwick Avenue, Cambridge CB3 9DA", or e-mailed to: Since the office is only staffed part-time, no telephone calls can be taken. |
