How can you access CamTools?
https://camtools.cam.ac.uk/
You will only see CamTool sites on the left hand side for which you have signed up i.e. given your email address to the site administrator/lecturer.
What is CamTools?
CamTools functions like an umbrella bringing together various CamTools sites (like websites) within the University which were set up by lecturers/course leaders or your librarian. You may find that throughout your course some lecturer(s) will communicate with you via their CamTools site, sending you essay titles, reading materials, and other announcements. These notifications will reach you through emails.
What does our Library use CamTools for?
The 'FAMES' Library' uses its CamTools site for uploading chapter(s) from books on the reading lists of which we do not have enough copies and which are likely to be in heavy demand. We also upload unique materials given to us by some of the lecturers.
These materials can then be read online (like an e-book). Please note that you will have to register your email address with us for each course you wish to access.
We are only allowed to upload one chapter from each book at a time. If you need several chapters from the same book throughout the year, we will have to take off the previous chapter and replace it with the new one as needed.
Please note that some lecturers will upload some of your reading materials to THEIR CAMTOOLS' site. To avoid confusion, always ASK them to clarify to which CamTools'' site they have uploaded your material(s).
PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOUR CLASS NEEDS ANY MATERIAL TO BE UPLOADED (due to lack of multiple copies). (fs285@cam.ac.uk)
You will be prompted to enter your CRS-ID (first part of your Cambridge email address) and your RAVEN password (issued by the Computing Service).
Your email address has to be registered for EACH CamTools' site ( with the person who set that particualr site up ), in order to be able to access the site.
If your email address is registered to access various CamTools' sites, these sites will appear on the left hand side when you log in to CamTools. Our CamTools site is called 'FAMES Library' (obviously).
How would you know which chapters from your reading lists are uploaded onto CamTools?
You will need to search the Newton catalogue for the actual book. If a chapter from that book has been uploaded onto CamTools, it will be indicated in the catalogue record. If you cannot access them, you will need to email us (fs285@cam.ac.uk) and ask us to register your email address.
If FAMES Library does not have the book, it can still be uploaded to the site, if some other library or the lecturer has a copy. For these you will have to browse FAMES Library CamTools site under the appropriate course.
