Reader / Senior University Lecturer in Classical Arabic Studies

Grade 10, Salary range £52,219- £55,389 p.a., or Grade 11, Salary £58,754 p.a.

The University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a Reader or Senior University Lecturer in Classical Arabic Studies in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, to begin on 1st September, 2017. This appointment is tenure-track, subject to an initial probation period. The appointee will be expected to be engaged in research at a high level of international recognition, to seek opportunities to win external funding for that research and to publish in their specialist field, to teach and examine undergraduate students, and to supervise and examine postgraduate work. The person appointed will also be required to take on senior administrative duties within the Department and the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. The main area covered by the post is Classical Arabic Studies with specialism in one or more of the following: legal thought (fiqh); dialectical theology and/or philosophy (kalam/falsafah); Qur’an and Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir); history (tarikh).
