Egyptology Teaching Staff

University teaching in the ancient Egyptian language, and in its Demotic and Coptic derivatives, is given by John Ray; and in history and archaeology by Kate Spence. An important contribution to the courses is provided by staff of the Fitzwilliam Museum. College supervisions draw also upon a community of post-doctoral scholars resident in Cambridge.

John Ray is Sir Herbert Thompson Professor of Egyptology. His principal field of interest covers the Late and Hellenistic periods, with special reference to documents in the demotic script. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquarians and a Fellow of the British Academy.
