Charles Robert Cecil Augustine Allberry

CA Charles Robert Cecil Augustine Allberry (1911-43), Egyptologist

Charles Allberry was born in Sydenham, 9 November 1911. He was educated at St Dunstan's College, Catford, and Christ's College, Cambridge, BA, 1933. He was elected fellow of Christ's College, 1935, and first Lady Budge Fellow, 1936-9. He edited and published Manichaean manuscripts in the Chester Beatty collection and in the Berlin Academy, 1938-9. He became editor of the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, 1939. He worked at Bletchley Park and then joined the Royal Air Force. He married Patricia Katherine Grace Sandbach, 1942. He was killed in action near Nedeweert, Holland, 3 April 1943.
