Focusing on the everyday life and labour of three elderly rice farmers in the heart of Taiwan’s rice-producing country, this inspiring film explores man’s relationship to the land. Even though the WTO has affected the farmers’ livelihood, their fortitude and humanity against hardship remains.

Screening: Doctor醫生 (2006, dir. Chung Mong-hong 鍾孟鴻, 92min)
A touching but not sentimental documentary exploring the meaning of life and death by telling the story of a Taiwanese radiologist in Iowa, Wen Pi-chian, who loses his only son to suicide and then a Peruvian boy to cancer.
Screening: Jump! Boys 翻滾吧！男孩 (2005, dir. Lin Yu-hsien林育賢, 85min)
This warm and engaging documentary follows a group of young boys from different backgrounds and with different personalities who were brought together by a passion for gymnastics and are coached by a has-been, hoping they will become national champions.
This event is free and all films have English subtitles.
