The Arabs in the 21st Century
A Cambridge University Middle East Society Speaker Event
The Cambridge University Middle East Society invite you to a talk by Professor Eugene Rogan.
- Wednesday, 22nd February, 2017 at 5:30pm
Room G.19, Faculty of Classics, Sidgwick Site
Eugene Rogan is professor of Modern Middle Eastern History at Oxford, where he is also director of the St Anthony’s College Middle East Centre. His research focuses on the Arab world from the 18th century onwards, tackling issues such as the impact of the First World War and the conflicts in Palestine. He is also the author of the hugely popular survey The Arabs: A History, which he followed in 2015 with the equally successful The Fall of the Ottomans: The Great War in the Middle East 1914-20.
Prof. Rogan will speak about the way foreign interventions, domestic upheaval and regional rivalries have ravaged the Arab world since 9/11. This will be a fantastic opportunity to hear an historian’s perspective on contemporary processes, and should be an extremely thought-provoking event. We hope to see many of you there!
