Taiwan Youth Ambassadors' Visit to the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

China WorkshopOn 19th June, 2013 the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies welcomed the Taiwan Youth Ambassadors student delegation from National Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan during their visit to Cambridge. The visit to Cambridge was part of their one-week long visit to the United Kingdom to promote Taiwan and Taiwanese culture. The student delegation was led by Prof. Lei Yang, who is Professor of Environmental Engineering and Director of the EU Centre at National Sun Yat-sen University.

During their visit to the Faculty the members of the student delegation gave several presentations on Taiwan and Taiwanese cultures and especially focused on introducing the audience to Taiwan's Cultural and Creative Industries. After each of the presentations the students from National Sun Yat-sen university answered the numerous questions from the audience that consisted of Cambridge graduate students from many different faculties.

After the official presentations the Taiwanese students were joined by several Cambridge students for lunch and continued the discussions from the Question and Answer session were continued. During lunch the Taiwanese delegation was also greeted and welcomed to Cambridge and the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies by Prof. Hans van de Ven. In the afternoon the Taiwanese delegation enjoyed a tour of Cambridge led by several Cambridge students before they returned to London in the early evening. The visit of the Taiwan Youth Ambassadors student delegation was a great opportunity for Cambridge students to learn about Taiwanese culture and for discussions and an exchange of views between the student delegation and students from Cambridge University. It is hoped that future student delegations under the Taiwan Youth Ambassadors'' scheme will visit Cambridge again to introduce Taiwanese Culture and exchange their views with students from Cambridge University.
