Open Language Classes

If you are a graduate student with an academic need for knowledge of Modern Hebrew, Hindi or Urdu we have the classes below available.

Please note that these classes are not normally available to those outside of the University.

If you are interested in learning any of our languages just for conversation or holiday purposes, you may wish to contact the University Language Centre.


Foundation Course in Modern Hebrew

This class will continue from Wednesday, 30th April, 2014 - for FOUR WEEKS ONLY.

Foundation course in Modern Hebrew: Wednesdays, 13:00 - 14:00 in Room 313 (3rd floor)

Please note: this course has already started in Michaelmas Term, 2013 and continues in Lent and Easter terms, 2014.

Venue: All classes are held at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Sidgwick Site.

Teaching is provided by a native speaker, Mrs Rachel Williams, and specific questions about the class(es) should be addressed to her: rw212@cam.ac.uk

As well as attending the classes, you are also entitled to use the Faculty Library and access the Faculty's online teaching resources.

Hindi - Beginners' Level 1 and Level 2 Courses

These classes will resume on Monday, 28th April, 2014.

Please note: this course has already started in Michaelmas Term, 2013 and continues in Lent and Easter terms, 2014.

Level 1 (Beginners' Class) meets twice a week as follows:

  • Every Monday 17:00 - 18:00pm in Room L1 and
  • Every Wednesday 16:00 - 17:00pm in Room B1 (basement), Criminology Building

Level 2 (Previous Knowledge) meets twice a week as follows:

  • Every Monday 12:00 - 13:00pm, Room 304 and
  • Every Tuesday 14:00 - 15:00pm, Room 304

Venue: Except as noted above, all classes are held in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Sidgwick Site.

Teaching is provided by a native speaker, Mr Aishwarj Kumar, and specific questions about the class(es) should be addressed to him: ak403@cam.ac.uk

Urdu - Beginners' Level 1 and Level 2 Courses

These classes will resume on Tuesday, 29th April, 2014.

Please note: this course has already started in Michaelmas Term, 2013 and continues in Lent and Easter terms, 2014.

Level 1 (Beginners' class) meets twice a week as follows:

  • Tuesday at 13:00 - 14:00pm in Room 313 and
  • Wednesday at 11:00 - 12:00 in Room B1 (basement), Criminology Building

Level 2 (Previous Knowledge) meets twice a week as follows:

  • Tuesday at 12:00 - 13:00 in Room 304 and
  • Wednesday at 13:00 - 14:00 in Room 304
