Born in 1953, Dr Chung Woo-Taik is a graduate of the College of Law at Sungkyunkwan University and received his PhD in Economics from the University of Hawaii.  He was first elected to the National Assembly in 1996 and was re-elected in 2000.  During the presidency of Kim Dae-jung, he served as Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.  He won election as governor of North Chungcheong province in 2006 and then returned to the National Assembly in 2012.  He has served as a member of the Supreme Council of the Saenuri Party and is currently the chair of the National Assembly’s National Policy Committee.
