Biography:

MPhil in Chinese Studies (Cantab) 2015-16.  

Dissertation: 'The challenge of incorporating non-institutionalised practitioners: the Chinese State and registration of Zhengyi Sanju "Scattered" priests.'  

Supervised by Dr Adam Yuet Chau.

BA (Hons) in Chinese and History (SOAS) 2010-14. 

Dissertation: 'How did Empress Wu use Daoism and other religious doctrines to create legitimacy for her rule: an exploration of State legitimacy, religious gender construction and courtly religious expression in the early Tang and 'Zhou' dynasties.'  

Supervised by Dr Antonello Palumbo.

Research Interests

Anthropology of Chinese Religion.  My PhD research focuses on contemporary Daoism and Chinese State management of Zhengyi Householder Priests.  

Additional interests: art, gender construction, legitimacy, and ritual in China.
