Broad interests: theology, ethics, Abrahamic monotheism, Islam, Islamic learning, modernity, intellectual history, history of the modern Middle East, Arabic language, methodologies that engage with phenomenology.

Current research: Islamic Reformist discourses on ethics, civility and pedagogy in late 19th century Egypt.
