About
Intro: Coastal regions constitute one of the most critical living environments for humanity today. In the context of global change, coastal human activities and their impacts have garnered significant attention from scholars across diverse fields. The Jiangsu and Shanghai coasts lie within China's eastern coastal zone. According to The Tribute of Yu (Yu Gong, 禹贡), that region belonged to the mud flat area of ancient Yangzhou. Over extended periods, sediments carried by the Yellow River, Huai River, and Yangtze River have deposited in that area, shaping vast tidal flat plains. Taking that region as a case study, this lecture illustrates the intrinsic link between changes in the marine environment and human development, as well as the adaptive processes through which coastal populations expanded their territories and engaged in dynamic migration.
