Prof Christine van Ruymbeke appointed Francesco De Dombrowski Visiting Professor at I Tatti, The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies (Nov-Dec 2025)

On the first leg of her sabbatical leave, Prof Christine van Ruymbeke has been appointed Francesco de Dombrowski Visiting Professor (serving Nov and Dec 2025) at I Tatti, Harvard University.

Christine van Ruymbeke | I Tatti | The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies.

During her time in Florence, Prof van Ruymbeke will initiate a new research project on literary style as pedagogy, examining two contemporary re-writings of Kalila and Dimna: A Timurid Persian rewriting (Anvar-e Sohayli, by Kashefi) and an Italian Cinquecento Renaissance rewriting (Moral Filosophia & Trattati, by Doni).

This research continues her findings on the literary style of the Timurid text (C van Ruymbeke, Rewriting Kalila and Dimna, Brill 2016 Kashefi's Anvar-e Sohayli – Rewriting Kalila wa-Dimna in Timurid Herat | Brill) and introduces a comparative study with the Italian text.

The remarkable intellectual and artistic dynamism of the environments in which these two almost contemporary re-writings have been created offer similarities and touching points which allow for fruitful comparative analysis.
