Dr Wits is a historian of modern East Asia. His research focuses on diplomatic and international history during the Cold War, especially Sino-Japanese relations in this period. He received his PhD from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, and he was a visiting lecturer at the Institute of Asian and Oriental Studies at the University of Tübingen (2017-2018).
