The PhD in South Asian Studies

Our PhD is a research degree obtained solely by submission of a doctoral thesis and should not exceed 80,000 words exclusive of footnotes and bibliography but subject to an overall word limit of 100,000 words exclusive of bibliography. Since research supervision by a teaching officer in the field is an important part of postgraduate work, we encourage candidates to discuss their research interests with us before making an application.

For more detailed information about the research interests of the teaching officers in South Asian Studies and the areas in which they are currently willing to offer doctoral supervision, please look at our teaching staff section.
