Tiberian Pronunciation Tradition of Biblical Hebrew. Prof Geoffrey Khan

Plate 2 Masoretic Treatise
Masoretic Treatise
This project, which is nearing completion in 2017/18, has the aim of reconstructing the Tiberian pronunciation tradition of Biblical Hebrew. This is the tradition of pronunciation that is reflected by the vocalization signs in printed editions. They have their origin in signs created in the Middle Ages by the Tiberian Masoretes. The outcome of this project will be a book that will be the first full description of the tradition. It is based on the research of a variety of medieval sources, many of them preserved only in unpublished manuscripts. It will form the basis of all descriptions of Biblical Hebrew pronunciation in future grammars of the language, including the grammar of Biblical Hebrew being prepared in Cambridge.
