Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

The Faculty offers a number of different outreach events for prospective undergraduate students.

Our Faculty Open Days give you an excellent opportunity to:

  • Visit the Faculty
  • Learn about our courses and the skills they can give you
  • Find out about the Year Abroad and possible career paths
  • See what it is like to be a student here
  • Ask questions of our friendly teaching staff and current students

The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies also participates in the Cambridge Open Days in July each year.

Our Faculty Taster Days for Year 12 pupils (or equivalent) give you the chance to:

  • Attend language taster sessions in Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, Persian or Hindi
(no prior knowledge of an Asian or Middle Eastern language is required)
  • Experience a sample lecture in either Middle Eastern Studies or East Asian Studies
  • Visit the Faculty and hear about the courses we offer
  • Talk to our teaching staff and current students
  • Find out more about the Cambridge admissions procedure

The Faculty also participates in the University's Subject Masterclasses programme. Subject Masterclasses are subject-specific events that offer academically able students in Year 12 (or equivalent) the chance to experience typical undergraduate teaching at the University of Cambridge, and to get a flavour of what it's like to be a student here. They provide students with an opportunity to explore topics of interest beyond what's covered within the school curriculum. Each Masterclass includes:

  • Two taster lectures delivered by leading academic staff from the University
  • The opportunity to discuss and ask questions
  • An introduction to the Cambridge admissions process
  • The opportunity to hear about life as a Cambridge student from current undergraduates
