Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

Faculty Building

The Faculty is on the Sidgwick site, just outside the city centre. The Faculty building is open Monday to Friday throughout the year (except for the Christmas and Easter holidays).

Our lectures, seminars and supervisions take place in the Faculty building. You will find more details about lectures, seminars and supervisions under How you learn - how we teach. If you are combining with, or borrowing a subject from another Faculty, relevant classes will take place in that Faculty.

The Library

The Faculty has an extensive library on the first floor of the Faculty building. The Library has a number of computers dedicated to catalogue searching, and is enabled with wireless Internet access. Library staff are available at all times to assist with enquiries concerning the catalogues, the location of books, journals and special collections and to advise on the use of electronic resources. Students are also encouraged to make use of the libraries of their own Colleges and, of course, the University Library, with its world class collections, which is 500m from the Faculty.

Common Room, Kitchen and Outside Space

On the ground floor of the Faculty building is a large common room, with wireless internet access. Student pigeon holes are located here and there is plenty of seating and tables. There is a small kitchen alongside for use by students and staff. A pleasant courtyard between Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and Classics is a popular place to relax on warm sunny days.

The Sidgwick Site includes two cafés offering food, hot and cold drinks, the Buttery and the ARC Café.
