22 June to 23 June 2026
Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Room 8&9, Room 10
We are happy to announce that on June 22-23, the Department of East Asian Studies will hold its inaugural East Asian Studies Postgraduate Conference. The event will bring together Master’s and PhD students from around the world who conduct research relating to East Asian Studies.
About
2026 Conference Theme: “Conversing Across East Asia”
“Conversing Across East Asia” invites speakers to reconsider East Asian studies by foregrounding the processes through which the region has been imagined and transformed. Rather than accepting the presupposed boundaries within East Asia as fixed, this theme asks: What is East Asia, and how do we find it? Our lineup of speakers related to Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Studies engages with national, regional, or global topics. By bringing together young scholars whose work crosses linguistic, temporal, and regional lines, the conference aims to set a foundation for future interdisciplinary academic exchange across East Asian Studies. Come join us for an exciting two days dedicated to exploring the interconnections that shape East Asia, both its past and its present.
