The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern studies is the home of significant research, across a huge array of subjects and disciplines.

Our researchers are engaged in internationally recognised work in the history, literature, linguistics, social anthropology, sociology, politics and contemporary culture of the Middle East, North Africa, China, Japan and the two Koreas. In addition the work of several staff crosses traditional boundaries, both geographical and subject based.

An MPhil with us is a first step into this fascinating world. Whether you are interested in a taught or research Masters, you will gain access to research and resources of the highest quality, and will become part of a vibrant intellectual community.
