Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

06 December 2024
We are very excited to announce the acquisition of a large series of facsimiled Buddhist texts titled Zhongguo fojiao banhua quanji 中國佛教版畫全集.

Spanning eighty-two volumes, this series beautifully reproduces a wide range of illustrated Buddhist texts from the last two millennia. With this significant acquisition, Cambridge joins an exclusive club of (only!) fourteen institutions currently in possession of this series around the world, and becomes the only university on this side of the globe to have it (the other fourteen institutions include thirteen American universities and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, according to WorldCat). This series opens countless new avenues of research in Buddhist Studies and Chinese Studies for our academic community and marks a great step forward in the expansion of our collections.

This important acquisition was made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Glorisun Charitable Foundation for promoting Buddhist Studies, managed by Dr Noga Ganany at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. We are extremely grateful for the Foundation's ongoing support of Buddhist Studies at our Faculty.

We would also like to thank the head of the Chinese collection at the University Library, Dr Yan He, and her team, whose hard work on this acquisition is highly appreciated.

The new series is stored in West Four at the University Library under classmark FM 915.83 (1-82).
