Based in part on a recent research paper by Dr Nilsson-Wright focusing on Japan’s recent, new minilateral security partnerships with India and Australia, the project involves a detailed assessment of the Abe administration’s efforts to develop a distinctive model of partnership in the Indo-Pacific. The research will not only examine the substantive new security policy being developed by Japan, but the reception this initiative has had within the wider region and the role of Abe’s new policy in managing a range of traditional and non-traditional security threats within East Asia.
