Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

Dr Andrew Marsham is a member of the group of specialists led by Dr Catherine Holmes at Oxford, Dr Jonathan Shepard at Cambridge, Prof Dr Jo van Steenbergen at Ghent, and Prof Björn Weiler at Aberystwyth. It explores commonalities and differences in the structures and beliefs of political action among the societies of the medieval Mediterranean—Western, Islamic and Byzantine. Two volumes are currently in preparation, respectively on the framework of politics (the practices, norms, and context of political action, but also the historiography of political culture), and the means, mechanisms, and framework, of cultural and political exchange.
